I can't believe it! Before the clock strikes 12, I just want to share one last post with you. Theres so much to share but I have chosen to share Ruth's wedding because it was such a monumental moment for our team.

We flew out to Monterey California to beautify Ruth and her wedding party. I could go on and on about the wedding but I'll let the pictures do the talking.

We've been busy, but somewhere in there we had the chance to squeeze in some fun shoots. However this time it was my beautiful & talented team who got to pose for the camera.

Aria (ARIA PHOTOGRAPHY) and I have been talking about collaborating for a while now. When the opportunity presented itself and we were discussing models, Aria suggested we use Morgan and her super cute boyfriend for a vintage inspired engagement shoot. Morgan is so stinking cute so I got really excited about working with her, but when Aria said vintage, I knew Morgan and I were in for a good laugh.

A lot of you don't know Morgan personally so let me be the first to tell you that this look is so outside of her character. We were dying laughing because it was so weird for us to see her transform from modern to vintage in a matter of minutes. Of course Morgan rocked it, and watching her work the camera, I felt like a proud momma.

With Stephanie, Camilla Binks needed a model for a winter inspired bridal shoot and approached Stephanie about modeling. When Stephanie called me to do her hair, I couldn't help but tease her that she was secretly shooting her bridal session and just didn't want to admit it! I love Stephanie with all my heart and would do anything for her so when she told me she was getting into a wedding gown, I was rearranging my schedule because there was no way I was going to miss out on this! Camilla suggested something simple and low. We brainstormed and gathered ideas but when it came time to bring it to life, all Stephanie said was "make it big sin!", so we did. Seeing it all come together and watching her rush out the door, it was impossible for me not to get teary eyed.

I'll admit that it was a little intimidating to design for these guys. After all, they are my teachers, my inspiration, and very very talented. I felt very honored to be a part of it.

So heres a couple shots I wanted to share with you all. The talent behind Enizio, my girls, in a very different light..

Collaborating with Camilla Binks

Camilla approached us about collaborating on a stylized shoot with a bird theme. She had found this giant birdcage and wanted to use it for a shoot. I was excited about it because this is when we get to create looks from a completely different perspective. These shoots are so fun because they challenge the artist in us.

Stephanie created the makeup look for the model and Morgan designed the hair.

Sorry for the lack of posts! A lot of people have asked me to update this thing..

Besides being crazy busy, a lot of the work we have done has to be kept hush hush since they are add campaigns and spreads that won't even be published until 2012! So can't say much about those.

As far as our brides, Its been crazy busy for a lot of vendors we work with. I know they are trying to stay on top of their edits so i promise as soon as we see some pics go up, I will post our brides for you all to see.

I do have some behind the scene stuff from a recent shoot we did in St. George for the incredibly talented Kristy Rice of Momental Designs. Kristy is infamous for her hand painted custom wedding invitations. She is one talented momma! She hand painted two pairs of shoes for the shoot that turned out so stunning! We got to team up with Tessa of Utah Bride and Groom and my favorite person on this planet, Hilary, of Alta Moda Bridal.

When Hilary approached us about this shoot, I knew we were in for an unforgettable experience so Morgan, Steph and I packed up our bags headed to St. George without hesitation.

The theme for Kristy's shoot was western rugged meets urban romance. Our models, Stephanie and Mason were such a hot couple. The weather was to die for and everything came together so perfect!

These are the shoots that I die for. I love to travel and collaborate with amazing talent. I love working with Stephanie and Morgan who truly are the most talented artists I have had the privilege to work with. Not only do they rock everything they touch, they always go the extra mile and are two of the most fun people I know. These two ladies have become 2 of my greatest friends. I am so lucky to have the honor to work with them.

The shoot consisted of two looks. One engagement, one bridal. We shot the first look at the cutest stinkin store in St. George called Urban Renewal. The second look had a couple different locations but ended on the La Verkin Overlook which was so breathtaking. I can't wait for these pictures to publish. They are going to be amazing!

Thank you to Kristy once again for the opportunity to be a part of this shoot. Heres some behind the scene shots. Sorry your not going to get much of the models until this shoot gets published. But were always fun to look at no?? hahahhaha!

How to get that “Just got my hair done" blowout

You just had your hair blown out; its voluminous, its sleek, it looks awesome. Then you wonder if you will be able to recreate it yourself? Here are some tips I have found helpful to achieve the round brush blowout.

1. Know your hair texture! Depending on your hair texture will determine what type of brush you will use whether it be a boar bristle, or a synthetic bristle. If you have a thick course texture that is either curly or frizzy a boar bristle brush would be your best bet to use. The boar bristles help to pull the curl out of the hair and smooth out frizz while still adding body and curl to the hair. If you have a normal to finer texture of hair with not much curl or frizz a synthetic bristle brush would be your best bet. Usually the synthetic bristle brushes have a metal center that allows the brush to heat up when using the blow-dryer. This will help create volume and curl in the hair.

P.S. Try and use brushes that are vented. This will help speed up the drying process and be less damaging to the hair.

2. Get the moisture out! This is a golden rule. The worst thing you could possibly do is put a brush into soaking wet hair. First of all it will take forever to dry. Second of all you will burn out so quickly because your arm hurts you wont want to finish. So remember before you start you want your hair to be about 80 percent dry. Whether you let it air dry, or run the blow-dryer through it for a few minutes, I promise your blow dry process will be a much better experience. Also much quicker!

3. Section it out! I find that my hair looks so much better when I take the time to section it and work with smaller sections. This will also help so you don’t get lost in your own hair. Make sure your sections aren’t to big. A good way to gage this is to look at the size of brush you are using; your sections should either be about the size of the barrel of the brush or smaller. This will help to work through the sections and keep the hair on the brush. Blow-dry the bottom first and work up to the top.

Time for the Nitty Gritty!

4. When you put the bush into your hair you want to focus on the hair on the brush. Make sure you are really getting the hair on the brush and using as mush tension as you can. This is what is going to give you the really smooth frizz free hair. When drying make sure the air flow from the dryer is blowing down the cuticle of the hair (roots to ends) if its blowing up the cuticle you will get frizz. One more thing… don’t ever stop drying a section till it is 100 percent dry. Otherwise your efforts will be for nothing and you will have limp, lifeless, frizzy hair.

5. How to get curl. Again I repeat; with the hair that is on the brush make sure you are getting good tension. Once the hair is smooth and dry in your section keep working the hair with the round brush and getting it warm. Carefully role the hair in the brush and blast it with heat. Once it’s hot, blast it with the cool air using your cold setting. The heat will help mold the hair into place, and the cooler air will help set the hair in place. When removing the round brush, twist the handle with your fingers when pulling it out to create a soft curl. Try not to touch it till the hair has cooled off 100 percent to make sure the curl sets.

P.S. If you have very long hair don’t role the brush all the way to the root, role it about to the middle of the strand to avoid getting the brush caught in the hair. Don’t want that to happen!

6. VOLUME!! I have found with working with my clients they have the tendency to pull the hair flat to the head when drying. Mostly because it is hard to maneuver a brush and heavy blow-dryer above your head. However, you have to get that hair off the scalp. When you reach the top half of your head you will want to do something called “over directing.” Over directing is when the hair is pulled away from where it naturally falls. When it is pulled up and away or in the opposite direction of where it lays you should have nice volume when it is placed back to where it lays. For example, When blow-drying around the temples use the brush to direct the hair straight up. When blow-drying around your part, over direct hair as far as you can to either side of the head. Example, when your drying the right side of your part pull that hair in the brush all the way to the left side of your head, and vice versa. When blow drying the crown and the hair behind the part, pull the brush with the hair towards the forehead. I know its difficult to get used to but you will get volume and possibly a great arm workout. Combine steps 5 and 6, and you should have something like big sexy hair!

Tools are important. A professional blow-dryer will give you better results., and will also be less damaging to the hair. A good place to buy dryers and brushes would be any beauty supply such as Sally’s or Peerless.

Hey ladies!

My name is Codilyn, I am a freelance makeup artist, and am lucky enough to consider myself a good friend of the lovely Cynthia! When Cynthia asked me to write a few things for her blog is was flattered and thrilled!

One of the things I love the most about being a makeup artist is showing women how to enhance their true beauty with just a little bit of makeup. I love the difference in their countenance and attitudes when they realize just how beautiful they truly are.

While working with a client recently she asked me a few questions that I thought might be perfect for sharing on the blog.

*Question #1: When my mascara or other products are starting to dry out, can't I just add some water to them?

My response: Let me ask you this... if your milk was starting to curdle, would you simply add water to it to make it like it was before? Hopefully not. When makeup starts to change in texture, color, or smell it's time to thank them for all they did and say your goodbyes at the garbage can.

*Question #2: My sister told me if there is only one thing that you can put on in the morning make sure it's your foundation. Is that true?

My response: Although I agree that foundation is a fabulous product, if you're leaving the house with only that you're basically leaving the house a blank canvas. Blank and lifeless. If you really only have a few seconds in your day I suggest you focus on three different areas...

#1- Eyes. If you can only do one thing, apply mascara. It will help you look awake and make them more open.

#2- Cheeks. Applying color to the cheeks (even if it's just the apples) will brighten the face and give you a glow.

#3- Lips. Adding some color to the lips will complete your basic look and give you the appearance of being pulled together. You can even use a lip stain on both your lips and cheeks, when time is really, really not on your side.

*Question #3: I've heard that green concealers are the only way to cover up red blemishes?

My response: Although it is true that the green does counteract with the red diminishing it (consult your color wheel ladies), you must be very careful when using green concealers because if too much is used it can tend to look unnatural when covered with foundation, and when placed in areas that don't have redness can tend to look grayish. A better solution is to find a concealer that has a yellow base to counteract the redness. Also, to keep it looking natural, and to keep the concealer in place, be sure to place the concealer on after you have applied your foundation. You also will use less product that way.

I hope these little tips and tricks will be informative and helpful to all you lovely ladies out there, and if you're ever in Arkansas and needing a makeup artist, give me a call! While you're in Utah however... consider yourself extremely lucky that you have the fabulous Cynthia at your disposal!!

Out of the Dust

Morgan and I recently had the opportunity to assist Laurie in an upcoming feature film called "Out of the Dust" directed by Christian Vuissa.

Its a film that will take you into the life of LDS prophet Joseph Smith.

On the days we came to assist, they filmed at This is the Place in Salt Lake City.

If you are familiar with This is the Place, you know that it is the home to the most haunted house in the state of Utah. You can only imagine how much fun we had with that considering our shoots went from 5pm to 5am.

We had a couple really creepy experiences on set with the "ghosts" who supposedly haunt this place.

The last night we filmed we got finished early so Laurie gave us the go ahead to take off. It was about 1am. Morgan was parked in front of Brighams house about a mile south of where we were filming. The park was closed and the only people there was the crew but everyone was on set.

As I was dropping Morgan off at her car, I looked at the house that was directly behind her (the one claiming to be the most haunted) and saw a person pacing in front of the house. I screamed so loud then Morgan, not even knowing what was going on, starts screaming too. We both got in our cars and peeled out of there so fast. The front gates were locked so we couldn't get out! I was so freaking scared out of my mind! We finally were able to get out of there and the next day when Laurie shared the story with the workers, they mentioned its not uncommon to see a lady who paces in front of the house. I was floored!

We had lots of other fun experiences that creeped us out. Serves us right to download a ghost radar app to our phones. Dustin ( the lead actor) had a lot of fun scaring us with that. It was such a great experience. I love all nighters. I love working with Laurie. We always have so much fun.

NATURES KNOCKOUT

Morgan and I flew out to Seattle WA a couple of weekends back for an audition to become educators for Davines Hair Color. We are so obsessed with this color line we wanted to represent and help others fall in love with it as much as we have.

We were in training during the day but at night we checked out Seattle. My best bud from beauty school just happens to own one of the hottest salons in Seattle (Source Salon in Ballard) so she was our tour guide for the weekend. It was such a blast. We stood at the top of the Space Needle, placed our gum on the gum wall, ate some amazing food, watch the sunset on Alki beach and got a private tour of Pikes Place.

Seattle is gorgeous! Reminds me of southern Cali with pine trees instead of palm trees. I would of never thought I had to wear a coat in the middle of June but disregarding the weather, this trip was such a blast.

As fate would have it, both Morgan and I got the job. We are so excited to be a part of Davines and look forward to our growth with them!

As mentioned previously, we had the chance to be a part of Carissa's wedding. She photographed extraordinarily in her bridals yet decided to do a different look for her wedding. I thought we were going to change up the whole thing but she actually just wanted her hair in a side pony instead of pulled back. I actually managed to get a before and after shot!

A couple of weeks ago I posted on twitter that I had the opportunity to be a part of a really great maternity shoot.

I love all things couples but specially babies! Its not everyday I get to take part in something like this, so for me it was a real honor.

Donna called us to get her all dolled up for her shoot. During the trial she asked me to accompany her to her shoot to make sure everything went perfect. I was so excited. When I saw her get into the Utah Lake, I knew her photography was going to be amazing

Today I just want to share my joy for one of my best friends who just recently got engaged.

Dave, Lesley and I all used to hang out in HS. Last year, they reconnected and he swept her off her feet and well... you can figure out what happened next.

Lesley and Dave are scheduled to be married this December. I can't hardly wait for this wedding.

BULLY BEATDOWN SEASON 3

I had the chance to come back for season 3 of Bully Beatdown, the crazy MTV show where bullies get the crap beat out of them by MMA fighters. Never seen or heard of the show? check it out here.

This season was crazy. I laughed, I cried, & undoubtedly had a great time. Jason was crazier than ever, the crew was a riot, and I LOVED working with Kathleen and Nancy again. We really had a great time.

Carissa contacted us a while back to take part in her wedding. Because she was from out of state, it made it difficult to arrange for a trial session so we had to hit her look spot on the first time around.

She brought several pictures as her inspiration pieces and we decided on a very vintage hairdo that was sculpted and very intricate. Stephanie gave her golden eyes with a pink lip that tied everything together perfectly.

For her wedding, Carissa has sent a new set of photos for a more modern, fresh and fun look. So I will have a whole new Carissa to show you next time around!

I've been dying to show off Scott Jarvie's work so Im glad he ok'd me to use these. If I could describe his stuff in one word it would be breathtaking.

Thank you to Carissa and her parents for allowing us to take part in her wedding.

We are excited for Carissas wedding this tuesday when she will marry her childhood sweetheart. Their story is the sweetest thing you'd ever heard.

Mask of Redemption, Vampired, Carissa and a photoshoot for Branches Floral Design

I was back on the set of Mask of Redemption with Tiffany these last two weeks. Laurie moved to Portland :( so I had the chance to come out and assist Tiffany. What a crazy fun show this was. I learned so much, specially what not to do on a synthetic wig.

Heres the deal with the wig....

Lauren Holly was the leading actress in this show. Due to some horse mishaps from previous shots, they needed to use a double in one of the scenes that would involve the horse for the safety of Ms. Holly. So it was called upon me to recreate a wig that her double would use. Because of the low budget of the film, I got a synthetic wig to work with. Not our preference but whatever I went straight to work. I spent a good 10 hours trying to put curl into that wig but the wig would not have it. (if your my friend on facebook you now know what the "cynthia vs the wig" post was all about).

Well, after about 10 hours, I finally got it to work but unfortunately within 15 min of pulling out the set that was in it, the weight of the hair pulled most of the curl out. I could re-set the wig but they would have to get the shot within 15 minutes of placing the wig on the double. Not happening! Well, just as we were about to give up, call it good and wrap for the evening, Tiffany pulls out another wig that has curl already in it and after much thought, once again, I went straight to work. I hand painted the wig and tried to pull as much curl out of it to make it look nappy to match Lauren's hair. Im not going to even be polite but after about 2 hours, that wig looked good. Of course, as fate would have it, the director decided to pull the horse out of the shot and used Lauren instead of a double and... I have yet to burn the wig.

I met a lot of great people and of course having the chance to meet and work with Lauren Holly was amazing. She is the nicest, most kind, sweet and caring person I have met and worked with.

I had the chance to reconnect with some very talented hairdressers on this show who rocked the 100+ extras we had to work with!

The Producer said that this was the best looking set of extras they had seen in any western movie.

Tiffany was amazing to work with and over all it was a really great experience.

Heres a shot of one of the sets for a boxing scene, those are some of the extras we all styled in the background.

Tiffany got some really awesome behind the scenes with Lauren. Ill be sure to link it to her site once she's got it up for you guys to see. Its hilarious. You will fall in love with Lauren Holly when you see it.

Mark decided to extend his short film so I had the chance to go back for a second set of Vampired. He added some scenes and took the film a different direction. I was laughing my head off. The cast, the crew and even Mark was so funny on this show. I had a BLAST! Definitely one of the most fun film shoots I've done.

As for the brides we have been doing, I have been taking pictures but leave it to me to misplace the cord that lets me download them to the computer. So heres a shot of Carissa off my phone. For me, this is the hottest vintage hair to date I've done. I love the design she wanted, and I love the way it turned out. Stephanie rocked her makeup. You can't see the intricacy of it in these photos but it was gorgeous. She used pinks and golds that made Carissa look fab.

Speaking of talent, I just met Amanda owner of Branches. She's a flower designer joining the Utah wedding scene. She contacted me about collaborating on a photoshoot and of course, I never skip out on an opportunity to collaborate with talented people. Her model (who had never modeled before) was SO beautiful. She and I learned that we had something very dear in common. If she ever reads this, THANK YOU for loving your job. Its people like you that bring hope and comfort and ease a lot of stress for people like me. I appreciate and love you for it. Thank's for letting me get crazy with you!

I feel really awful that I haven't been the best at updating this blog. I have also slacked at doing before and after photos which I realized today people actually like to see! My apologies. I promise to do better. Today, I thought I would share a couple of fun projects we've been on recently...

RYAN AND ASHLEIGH'S PHOTO-SHOOT

As some of you may know my "brother from another mother" was on So you think you can Dance this last season. Just after the show wrapped, Ryan and his wife were casted for Burn the Floor as the principle couple for their 2010 world tour. I had the privilege of doing the hair and makeup for their tour pictures along side my good friend Heidi Uhl behind the lens. This was such a pleasure for me because Ryan and I grew up together. It's been fun to see his career advance and to be able to participate in a small portion of it was a real honor. Look out for these two because I know America will be seeing a lot more of them.

VAMPIRED

I am a huge fan of Mark Andersen who is known for his amazing stock photography company, Rubberball Productions. Just recently Mark started a production company and I had the honor to be a part of Mark's first short film called Vampired. Mark wrote, produced and directed this short film. I have to admit that I was a little intimidated because I am such a big fan of his work. I had such a blast on this film. His lead actor was a riot to work with. He kept everyone laughing on set and watching him work with Mark was an unforgettable experience. Heres a small clip I caught on my phone of him goofing off with Mark. It just gives you an idea of how much fun this project was.

MASK

I got to team up again with my favorite mother/daughter team Laurie and Tiffany of Naturesknockout.com for this film. Stephanie and I came on as day players and I ended up pulling a 36 hour day working on this show and a couple other photo-shoots. I love working with Tiffany and Laurie! This film takes place in 1905 and was filmed at Lagoon. I'll tell you that walking from base to set in a dark theme park by myself at 3 am is a bit creepy! Because of the time period of this film, the hair was so fabulous and fun to do.

SOUL 41 PRODUCTIONS FOR DENTRIX

I got to take part in my first comedy type film project this last week. I laughed my head off taking part in this commercial for Dentrix. Will Rubio has got to be one of the funniest actors I have ever met. If your not familiar with Will Rubio you have to check out his work here. You'll laugh your head off! This spoof on clients who forget to show up to their dental appointments is sure to make a lot of people laugh! Im excited to see the final cut.

And of course, wedding season is in full bloom. Heres a couple trial sessions I captured plus some behind the scenes of our latest photo-shoot with Heidi Uhl. (Those are always very eventful). Last time we teamed up, she walked us out on to the Great Salt Lake in the freezing cold. I have to admit, it was the most fun shoot to date. Morgan and I laughed our heads off as we froze to death. Poor model. She was such a trooper!

7 things to avoid for perfect skin

1. SUN - Exposing your face to the sun is the quickest way to age your skin. When ultraviolet rays hit the skin's surface it produces molecules called free radicals which destroy healthy cells. They're particularly fond of collagen and elastin, the two ingredients that help keep skin firm and elastic. The more collagen and elastin degrade, the faster wrinkles appear on your skin. Use a teaspoon of SPF 30 on your face. Apply it before going into the sun. Reapply every 9 hours. Avoid sunlight between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm. Even the strongest sunscreen can only filter out so much during this time which will cause damage to your skin.

2. SMOKING- Nicotine in cigarrettes constricts the blood vessels of the face, making your skin look gray or sallow. An ingredient called acetaldehyde goes to work, attacking the fibers in your skin that hold it together. Finally a chemical reaction occurs creating a protein that causes the destruction of collagen and elastin. Add this to the constant creasing of the face while due to smoke irritation and the wrinkling of the skin while you inhale, its no wonder women who smoke look around ten years older than a non-smoker of the same age.

3. ALCOHOL- Alcohol dilates the blood vessels and in sensitive skins this can lead to broken veins . Alcohol also contains acetaldehyde which attacks skin fibers, reducing firmness and elasticity. As little as 2 drinks a day will dehydrate the skin enough to make wrinkles. Alcohol destroys all vitamin c, one of the most important nutrients for skin functioning.

4. STRESS- Stress increases the level of adrenal hormones like testosterone, which have been linked to the triggering of acne. In fact, stress is being blamed for the increase in so called adult acne in career women. Stress hormones cause blood flow to be directed away from the surface of the skin to your limbs and major organs. This means that your skin doesn't get all the nutrients it needs. To add insult to injury, you can't repair these problems with skincare as effectively when your stressed. Studies show it doesn't absorb products as well as relaxed skin. Learning to relax will help your skin survive.

5. LACK OF SLEEP- Nighttime is when the skin repairs itself. You build new cells and replace collagen and elastin damaged by the day's exposure to sun and pollution. The skin is also more absorbent at night which means it takes in treatments more effectively. Research shows that up to 25% more of some vitamin treatments enter the skin at night compared to during the day. Lack of sleep is responsible for dark circles, sallowness and fluffiness under the eyes, as the skin diverts blood to fuel the tired brain and other organs.

6. POLLUTION- Not only is air pollution bad for your face but so is taking in toxins to your bodies. On average we breath in 2 grams of pollution and eat 11 lbs each in food additives. Avoiding pollution is tricky. You can help fight pollution by eating better. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid salty foods, caffeine and hydrogenated fats.

7. LACK OF EXERCISE- Physical activities will help boost skin tone by increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood and reducing the amount of toxins that build up under your skin, it will also boost your skin health by increasing your tolerance to stress and help you sleep. For optimum skin health, try to do 3 sets of 20 minute exercises a week.

How to have a successful salon visit

Finding a hairdresser is like the search for a significant other! Hairdressers have a different approach to the way they dress hair, the way they communicate and the things they feel are most important. It can be overwhelming but at the same time very exciting. In order to help you through this process, here are 5 simple tips to help you get the most out of any hairdresser you visit.

1. Visit the salon or do some research before scheduling and appt. Check out the age, style and hairdos of the staff and clients. Does what you want fit in with their approach and image?

2. Take a picture with you. This will help your artist visualize what is in your mind. Use the pictures as a guide but be open to hear what the artist has to say as your hair texture and length will play a major role in making your vision a reality.

3. Be open to the care and maintenance of your desired look- Your artist should explain to you what products it will take to recreate this look as well as regular salon visits to maintain the look at its best. If for some reason they don't explain this to you, ASK! Once you hear their professional recommendation, think about your commitment to doing what it takes. If you feel like it will be too much work, or too expensive to maintain, then you may want to think twice about the service your going to receive.

4. It's important to feel like you can communicate with your artist. Find descriptive words to help explain to your artist your frustrations with your hair as well as the things you love. Share with your hairdressers things that have worked for you in the past, concerns you may have as well as the absolute do-not's. Communication is the most important thing to a positive experience in any salon. A good hairdresser will understand that you know your hair better then anyone else.

5. And lastly, always have an open mind when visiting a new salon. Comparing your new stylist to your old one will just set you up for disappointment. Ask questions to help you feel at ease. There is more than one way to achieve something so if they aren't doing it exactly like your past hairdresser, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't know what they are doing.

Makeup tips for the DIY bride

Even though a makeup artist is a must for your wedding, a lot of people opt to do the makeup themselves. Heres some tips from our makeup artists for those of you brave enough to take on the job!

Morning Brides:

Morning brides will photograph in the most natural light. This light has a blue tint to it. Because of this everything will photograph darker than you see it therefore do not make bold color choices for this time of the day. Also warmer shades photograph better in this light because of the contrast of the cool light. False eyelashes are a must for any bride being photographed early morning.

Mid Day Brides:

This is the harshest light to photograph in. The light source is directly above you therefore it can cast shadows in the under eye area. Choose a highlight with a touch of shimmer to avoid looking like you have under eye circles. Keep liner as close to lash line as possible again, to avoid the shadows. Use false eyelashes this will open up the eye more. Avoid dewy or sheen looks with your foundation and don't be afraid to blend, blend, blend. You cannot blend enough when photographing in this light.

Late After Noon Brides:

This is by far the best and most flattering light anyone can be photographed in. This light is so forgiving that you can do more intense color choices.. The flash however, will wash out your face so don't be afraid to put color on! Blush and Bronzer either or are a must in this light. Lip color can be richer for this time of day.Don't forget to pull out the false eyelashes to finish the look.

Evening Brides:

This is the time to let the Diva in you out!! Feel free to choose more bold colors. This is the only time a bride can get away with wearing a smoky eye. This is a great time to define your features. Shimmers are great for this time of day and false eyelashes a must!

I recently had the opportunity to be a guest speaker at the launch of Brideology - An educational event for brides to be. Studio Enizio hosted the event under the direction of Darla Roze Photography, founder of Brideology.

For my presentation, I focused my attention on the importance of makeup. I addressed 7 common myths in regards to the importance of hiring a professional for your wedding day makeup. They included;

MYTH 1: I don’t have to hire a pro because my sisters friends cousins wife’s next door neighbors aunt is going to do it for me. She went to beauty school!

MYTH 2: Well its cheaper to go to a counter so I’m just going to do that.

MYTH 3: My future husband loves the way I look everyday, why should I pay someone to put my makeup on when I can just do it myself and know that he will love it?

MYTH 4: I have to have airbrush because I heard its better and will last longer.

MYTH 5: A trial is not necessary for me because I know exactly what I want.

MYTH 6: I don’t need to do anything to prepare my skin because my makeup artist will cover everything.

MYTH 7: I don’t want to hire a makeup artist because then I won’t look like myself

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I have been very busy finalizing a new project as well as working with different photographers on self projects. I have a lot of stuff to share but honestly it may take a while to get everything up. Ill start with this fun project I just did with Opie.

Sara is such a cute girl. She was so nervous for this shoot but I think she did a great job. Sara is not a professional model by any means but did a great job. She was recently married and the gown was custom made by Melissa Blackburn who coincidentally happens to be friends with one of my best friends (small world).

I recently had the opportunity to work on a corporate film project for a local company. On set, one of the ladies asked about her flaking mascara. I asked her how long she had had her mascara and she told me over 3 years! I began to explain to her the dangers of using expired products and I was not surprised at all when she said "Oh, I didn't know that"

I feel like thats the case with many people. A lot of us don't know how long the shelf life of our makeup is and why its so important to discard makeup after it has expired. Since makeup companies are not required to post expiration warnings on their labels, you have to use your best judgement to know when its time to toss it out. The preservatives used in most cosmetic should kill common-use bacteria. However, studies have shown that a small amount of bacteria is often present in makeup prior to purchase. Upon the makeup’s exposure to air, airborne bacteria are introduced. The concentration of bacteria is augmented with unsanitary practices such as unclean hands or unclean applicator or brush. Don’t be alarmed; this is usually not a health hazard. If you are healthy with intact skin, a small amount of bacteria is not a problem. However, there is a higher risk for infection from contaminated products if your skin is non-intact. So if you suspect an infection don't use your makeup. If you have used it while you had an infection get rid of it and NEVER share your makeup with others.

As for the shelf life, heres some professional advice on how long to keep it around before its time to toss it out.

Foundation: • Life-span = 6 months to 1 year • Warning signs = thickening, altered color, or change in odor

Concealer: • Life-span = 1 to 1 ½ years • Warning signs = color change or thickening

Face powder, Eye-shadow:

• Life-span = 3 years • Warning signs = texture change when applying, dryness or change in color

Pencils: (for eyes or lips) • Life-span = 3 to 6 months • Warning signs = Change in odor, texture, or color

Lipstick and lipgloss: • Life-span: 2 years • Warning signs = taste or odor change, stickiness

As for mascara, It is so important that it is replaced every 3-4 months. This is one you definitely should not keep around longer!

And one last thing... Never add water to formulas that are drying out. Your just asking for problems at that point! If you have to add water, your way overdue!!

Meet Julie and Chris - The cutest couple on the planet! This last summer we had the opportunity to fly to Oakland and prep Julie's gorgeous face for her wedding as well as help out with hair and makeup for the bridal party. Chris and Julie were so awesome to have us as their guests! It was absolutely amazing for us. Since the wedding, Ive had the opportunity to continue working with them and have grown very fond of these two! As fate would have it, they are moving to Boston where Chris just landed a really great job. I will miss them dearly! Love you guys! I wish you all the success in the world! The above photo was taken in Merida Venezuela. I know it doesn't look like much but for me its one of the most magical places on earth. As a small child and through my youth I spent most of my New Years in this small town located in the Andes Mountains of my home country. Some of the best memories of my life took place here. Merida has been a huge part of my life and means so much to me. Today I wanted to share a small portion of my life with you. If I could have one wish it would be that I could be there tonight!

Taking Fashion to the Farm - Enizio heads to MUD LAKE ID

This month our team had the opportunity to visit the Bybee Family Farm in Mud Lake ID. Between the insanely cold weather to the out of our character activities, this experience was an unforgettable one. The Bybee's had us feeding, branding and preg checking the cows, as well as shooting targets, ribbon roping and riding horses. We also had the opportunity to train with Stephanie's old Paul Mitchell team on the importance of communication and team unity. It was a wild yet successful 3 days, ones I know I will never forget! Amy, Amy, Amy... I just don't even know where to begin because there is so much that I could share about our experience with this angelic bride. Amy was a riot to work with. Kate hired us to recreate an old hollywood look with a modern twist. When I saw her inspiration photos I was stoked to get my hands in her hair!!! We did pin curls, finger waves and perm rods (very small ones!) I could not have been happier with the way it turned out! Carol glammed her up using Audrey Hepburn inspiration. Last night we had the opportunity to be a part of the first ever Alta Moda Brides Night Out. An evening full of great food, photo booth, mingling and a lot of very in love girls scheduled to be married this up coming year. We were able to have 10 minute mini wedding makeover sessions with these brides and also give our professional opinion about wedding hair and makeup!

It was a blast and the food and decorations were to die for. Brown Brothers Catering had an Italian Soda Bar that was to die for! I seriously had like 10!!

Fellow wedding vendor and friend of mine, Turia Larsen, is an incredible cake designer. She is one of the amazingly talented vendors we work with. Last week she sent me this picture of a cake she made for a cosmetologist graduate. She said she thought of me when she made it- what a sweetheart! So I had to post it for all of you to see because I think its incredible and I can totally appreciate it. I wish someone would of made me a cool cake when I graduated from cosmetology school! Come to think of it, I wish I could just have a cool cake like this for no reason at all! I love cake!!!

When Kimley walked into our Studio, we knew she would be one of the most beautiful brides that would sit in our chair. When we finished her look, we were excited for what the photographer would deliver, but when we saw the photos, I about died! Elizabeth Taylor Frandsen- you are a force to be reckoned with! Elizabeth named the above photo "Wings of Venus". Kimley is so gorgeous- a total Goddess for sure!!!
Flavia kept it soft with a grey and pink palette which worked so well with her blue eyes and added black liner and lashes for drama. Kimley loves pompadours but wanted to keep it soft and feminine, so we pumped her up and gave her a soft curl pattern throughout the rest of her hair.

Meet Alejandro, Enizio's new Operating Manager! Alejandro will be assisting us in maximizing the client experience! He will also be managing our Studio, handling all the finances and all the non artistic portions of the business. For now, he will be the first face you see when you walk into our Studio and the last one you experience on your way out.
Alejandro is getting his Bachelors degree in Accounting at UVU. On his time off, he is a professional Latin Ballroom and Salsa Professional. He and his wife reside in Provo and are expecting their first baby at the first of the year.

We all know we need quality products to treat and protect our hair during styling and daily agressors throught the day. But, we usually dont think to treat our hair while we sleep. Here are some of my favorite finds:

Color
Crimson and Aqua will still prove strong. Pink, yellow, and orange will transform into muted and taffy tones. Less vibrant than previous takes on these hues.

Big is Back: Ballgowns are back in bridal fashion. New takes on the classic skirt give a fresh interpretation for a bride wanting an elegant affair, but still with all the modern deligths.

I recently traveled to Austin TX, for a 4 day business seminar. It was the most amazing experience as I got to rub shoulders with 25 other Kerastase salons located throughout the U.S, as well as learn from the staff of Salon Visage. The best part was that I got to spend 2 days with Geno Stampora. You may have read about him in earlier posts. If you didn't, I have to tell you that he is so incredible! He was recently awarded 2009 NAHA Hall of Fame for Most Influential Hairdresser. I love him!!!
We have recommitted ourselves to better customer service, better technical service and exceptional experiences every time!

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to be a part in creating the 2010 ad campaign for Riehl Events. Talent included Alta Moda Bridal, StellaPosy, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Brody Dezember Photography and none other than the gorgeous face of Shariana Suliafu. The colaboration was amazing! 2009 VMA's

Now that the 2009 vma's have come to end, I'm sure we will never forget or forgive Kanye for his minute of shame. Madonna paid tribute to The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and it touched our hearts for sure. But lets get to the good stuff and review the hottest and baddest looks of the night and of course nod at the ones that just didn't cut it this year.

Keri Hilson's hair and makeup takes my vote for best hair and makeup look of the night. She looks soooooo hot! Props to her hairdresser and colorist. Two thumbs up to her makeup artist.
Hated it! Jennifer Lopez looked aweful. Nothing about it works for her including that dress!

I love the softness of her evening makeup look but her hair resembles Sways hat.

I can't decide if this is on purpose or not. Either way, Shakira's hairdresser finally gave her a decent blonde tone and Pink looks more feminine than Ive ever seen her. Love them both.
Lady Gagas performance was horrible. I can say the same for her makeup. The hair and wardrobe, I actually liked those. I think shes the only one who could pull this look off but it still didn't grab my attention. The video is a lot better.

Billie Joe's hair looks like a bad wig. For being an icon for cool hair, I was sadly disappointed
And of course, the famous Beyonce. I love everything about her hair and makeup. The performance was show stopping. The song, the choreography, the look, everything about it worked for me.

Bangs: Wondering if You should?

You should!

Bangs are such a hot trend, and you’re probably considering them, or already have them and want a change in style. While cutting bangs may feel like a long-term commitment, there are a few options or styles that allow you to enjoy some fringe without changing everything about your hairstyle.

If you have short hair, instead of a ‘sweepy’ bang that covers your whole forehead, opt for a shorter, pieced, layered bang that you can still push to either side. You will have less trouble with them falling in your face, and avoid the ‘head toss’ associated with heavier, long bangs.

For medium or long hair you can always add a narrow (meaning it doesn’t span from temple to temple), heavy or broken line. Both of these pictures show a narrower fringe, while one is a more solid line, and the other is softer with some texture. If you already have shorter hair, try it! If you have longer hair and want to change things up a little, try it!

So what’s holding you back? If you have longer hair and are concerned about the amount of time it will take to grow your bangs out, try something like Kate Moss. The bangs are narrow and sheer and are easily pushed to one side or the other, or split in the middle. Keep them a little longer and you can always change the bottom line by adding more texture.

As for the shelf life, heres some professional advice on how long to keep it around before its time to toss it out.

Foundation:
• Life-span = 6 months to 1 year
• Warning signs = thickening, altered color, or change in odor

Concealer:
• Life-span = 1 to 1 ½ years
• Warning signs = color change or thickening

Face powder, Eye-shadow:

• Life-span = 3 years
• Warning signs = texture change when applying, dryness or change in color

Pencils: (for eyes or lips)
• Life-span = 3 to 6 months
• Warning signs = Change in odor, texture, or color

Lipstick and lipgloss:
• Life-span: 2 years
• Warning signs = taste or odor change, stickiness

As for mascara, It is so important that it is replaced every 3-4 months. This is one you definitely should not keep around longer!

And one last thing... Never add water to formulas that are drying out. Your just asking for problems at that point! If you have to add water, your way overdue!!

Morgans long hair tip

If there were just one tip I could give when it comes to the growing out process of your hair, it would be to have your hair trimmed on a regular basis. I would recommend seeing your Cutting Artist at least every 6-8 weeks.
You may be thinking "What? My hair just grew! I don't want to cut it!" but this step is so important. Trimming your hair often is going to save your hair from damage that leads to breakage, and eventually lifeless dry stringy ends. If you are having your hair trimmed regularly you won't need more than a half inch at most trimmed. This regular treatment will result in healthier hair, and fuller healthy ends.
Let me clear up the "Trimming your hair makes it grow faster myth." Unfortunately this is false. your hair grows at the root, and will grow faster or slower depending on the health of your scalp. However, trimming your hair will save you from continually breaking at the ends, which will cause you to lose length over time.
My new favorite product for all hair types, but especially long hair is Sublimateur Jour by Kerastase. I like to think of this product as a lotion for your hair. Think about how often you could use hand lotion. My answer is all the time! Your hair could use it too. FALL COLOR

As summer starts to wind down and the days are getting shorter and cooler, fall hair color is on the mind. The change of a season is a great time for some fresh new color. I have always loved the idea of going a little darker and richer in the fall and winter, but there are no rules! This season always inspires me with rich warm browns, cinnamon reds and golden blondes.

One technique that I love is called color melting. The concept is that the hair is darkest at the roots and gets lighter, or "melts" towards the ends. Think Sarah Jessica Parker and Gisele Bundchen. Because of the way the roots are done to look darker than the ends, you don't get the regrowth that you get with foil highlights. Everything is very seamless. This technique can be done on almost any length of hair, and the end result is subtle and gorgeous. Blondes achieve the look of having spent the summer on the beach with natural looking highlights and brunettes can experience rich color at the roots with carmel toned tips.

I recently had the opportunity to come on the set of Bully Beatdown as the Hair and Makeup Artist for the Utah portion of the show. If your not familiar with it, its a reality show on MTV that basically takes MMA fighters and bullies and puts them in the ring together. It's meant to teach bullies a lesson on beating up on others and what it feels like to get your butt kicked!. The first fight I saw I was almost in tears but by fight 4 I was really into it wanting to see some action!! The show airs on Aug. 27th at 9:00 pm on MTV. Check it out, your in for some good stuff this year! Heres a couple of pictures from set.

So of course after being amongst so many people in shape, Macy decided it was time to get our trash kicked and the team headed out to a little boot camp. We were so sore for the next days after! Instructor Lott totally worked us!
Carol and I had a chance to be a part of Julie and Chris' wedding out in Oakland CA. We had the chance to work with Heidi Uhl of Retrospect Studios. It was such a fun trip. Hot Chocolate will never be the same for me!! Heres Heidi and I outside the Oakland temple. Carol is inside touching up the bride. This was such a great experience and our very first out of state wedding. With it, we are hoping to start a new trend!

And of course... NAHA's. The North American Hairdressing Awards held in Las Vegas NV. Courtesy of Larry and Sheri Curtis (the coolest people on earth) Greg and I had a chance to see what the industry is really all about. We were inspired greatly by the amazing talent that surrounds our industry. Who knows maybe in the next couple of years.....

Aside from that, we have been working with the editor of Utah Bride and Groom doing the editorial for the Jan issue (its going to be smokin hot!!) and our new On-Site team just wrapped their first gig as a team, the Alysses Bridal Catalog.

So hence the lack of posts!! Congratulations to Kara, Tanya, Julie, Raven and Melissa who were all married this month so far. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day!!!

Shoot for Pink Piggy Design

I can't even begin to put into words how awesome and amazing this shoot was. We got to style some amazing models and get creative in our work. Megan gave us a lot of freedom to be creative and I loved that. Being on set for this shoot was probably the most tiring because we had both Tim and Heidi shooting at the same time while Hilary prepped the third model so I was running back in forth like a chicken with my head cut off! One of the best parts about it was being able to finally be on set with Audrey of Studio Stems. The work she did for this shoot was to DIE for. Megan was awesome to work for and of course it wouldn't be the same if Hilary wasn't there.

Shot by the dynamic duo, Tim and Heidi Uhl, it was so fun to work with both of them. Loved every second of it!

I have to brag because I have worked several photoshoots in my time and even though you work with beautiful models, it still takes talent to make them look right for a shoot. I couldn't be more proud or happy with the work Kelly and Morgan did for this shoot. They rocked it and the pictures say it all. For the little experience they have, these two talented artists will make it far in their careers and I am so proud that they are on our team! And of course Justin delivered beautiful photos.
