Her family was so funny and amazing! I can't say enough great things about our day with Lauren. Heres her morning before and afters...

SKIN CARE 101

The first step to exceptional makeup is exceptional skin.  Just like hair, in order for skin to look and feel healthy it needs proper nourishment.  Here is a simple breakdown of ingredients to look for in your skincare:

Antioxidant:  fights free-radicals  (i.e. pollution, environmental damage, uv rays)

Vitamin A:  helps fight aging.  Typically applied at night because it makes your skin sensitive to sunlight.

Vitamin C:   antioxidant.  Boosts natural collagen production to prevent wrinkles and plump skin.   Great for acne-prone skin.

Vitamin E:  heals and moisturizes.  Can be applied to new scar tissue to help minimize scarring.

CAROL & I had the opportunity to spend an evening with Geno Stampora who will be inducted into the NAHA Hall of Leaders this summer. As one of the most influential Hairdressers in the Industry, Geno deserves the award 100 times over. I have never left an educational session more ready to take on my career than that with Geno. A hilariously motivating class, Carol and I were reminded of the importance of our jobs, our positions and the influence we can really have. There is such a stereotype about hairdressers and makeup artists but as in all things, its what you make and think of it. I am so proud to do what I do. Its very rewarding to help people feel good about themselves as well as realizing that it takes true talent to do what we do.
Thanks Larry for the opportunity to meet Geno and pick at his brain for one night!

Curly Hair Tips and Tricks for both Artists and Clients

Do you find curly hair more difficult to style? Do you find that no matter how much product you use, the hair still looks frizzy? Do you have trouble finding a product that leaves the hair soft and shiny but also has hold? Here is a set of steps I have found to be very helpful when styling clients with curly hair.

1. Make sure you use a cream curl product. Gels and mousses tend to harden and flake leaving the hair looking filmy and full of product. Curly hair today is soft and moveable.
2. Don’t be afraid to use a lot of curl crème when the hair is towel dried. If you can use more, use more. Curly hair is naturally more dry so it shouldn’t make the hair feel or look unclean.
3. While the hair is still damp, part and place the hair in the style you would like before you start diffusing then don’t touch the hair again until it’s dry. If you do need to touch it, make sure there is product on your fingers so you don’t separate hairs and create frizz.
4. The keys to diffusing are LOW heat and LOW airflow. High heat and airflow are two main causes of frizz.
5. DO NOT turn your client upside down to diffuse. Just put the diffuser right up against the head and work on one section at a time. This will require a little bit of patience, but the end result makes it worth it!
6. When the hair is dry, use a light creamy finishing product on your fingertips and gently set your fingertips on the scalp. Making sure not to disturb your finished style, rub your fingertips in tiny circles on the head, one section of the head at a time, to separate any hair that is stuck to the scalp so the hair is more moveable. Remember to pull your hands straight out from the head before moving to your next section. Also use this product in your hands to gently squeeze the hair together in any spots where you do find frizz.
7. Finally, use a very small amount of light hold aerosol hairspray over your finished style, and voila! Perfection!

To achieve this look, here are the products I would strongly recommend:

Bain Oleo-Curl Shampoo
Oleo-Curl Masque
Oleo-Curl Crème- Curl Definition Crème
Lumiere Nutri-Sculpt- Illuminating Finishing Crème
Double Force- Multi-Protective Spray.

All products are in the hydrating Nutritive line by Kerastase

A LESSON ON DIVERSION

What is Diversion?

When Professional Products are sold in unauthorized retailers - Think Bumble and Bumble at Target, Paul Mitchell at Alberston's, Kerastase at Nordstrom's, etc. Professional products are only to be sold at authorized salons.

Why is Diversion bad?

Diverted products can be counterfeit, diluted formulas, or old, expired formulas that may not be safe to use. Meaning your getting watered down shampoos and conditioners, styling products that are expired or better yet, Suave in a professionally branded bottle. Imagine paying 58 bucks for a bottle of Suave!

Who is Diverting?
Products are diverted by unauthorized distributors and salons or their employees, plus other dishonest individuals who see profit in piracy.

What can you do about Diversion?

Buy from professional retailers only. Its the only way any professional brand can guarantee its product. Expired formulas could cause irritation or worse, you don't get to see what professional products can really do for your hair.

Now, Im talking any professional brand - Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Pureology, Logics, Redken, Bumble and Bumble, Davines, Dermalogica, Shu Uemura, and the list goes on and on.

If you see a professional product anywhere other than a salon retail location, its Diverted. Period.

Now most of these formulas are within cents of the salon cost. Im talking pennies. Sometimes they are more expensive but because you see it at a discount store you automatically believe that no matter what the price is on the sku, because of where your at it means its cheaper. WRONG! Don't be fooled.

Buy Professional from a Professional!

If you question where you buy your products or have any concerns- if your a professional and know your brands are being diverted, leave a comment, share with the consumer your thoughts. Help spread the word about diversion and how STUPID it is. Leave a comment!

Cheers to Retrospect for all they are achieving!

Theres a quote that says something like "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same"
Thats how I feel about Tim and Heidi.
I know I over post about how much we work with them and how much I love them but you can't not talk about people who have made a difference in your life. Carol and I have been laughed at and ridiculed many times about our idea to start Enizio On-Site. I can't even tell you! It was so refreshing to meet people who believed in you and encouraged, helped and pushed you to be the best. Those are the people you want to keep close and thats why we work so heavily with Retrospect as well as Alta Moda, Studio Stems and the other vendors you see listed to the right of this page.
Tim and Heidi were just recently featured in the American Entrepenuer Project. Just link here to read the article and you have to see the cute picture. Its totally Heidi and Tim.
Anyway, I am so proud of them and so proud to work with them.
Heres to Tim and Heidi! A blessing from Heaven! Way to go guys!!!

Natalie

Check back next week for her before and after makeup shots! This girl is so beautiful.

Larry hooks it up!

Enizio was invited to the grand opening of the Taylor Andrews Orem location that was held last night. It was so lovely! Greg and I had a chance to rub shoulders with some great hairdressers and of course Larry and Sheri Curtis who are always such a pleasure to chat with. It was fun to be back in the school environment and reminisce of my beauty school experiences. Best of all, Enizio artists took home both giveaways. Greg and I won tickets to the North American Hairdressing Awards in Las Vegas and Stephanie won a full day with Phillip Wilson- world renowned hairdresser. Talk about lucky!

This afternoon we were back at Taylor Andrews for Yosh Toya- who's won “Hairstylist of the Year” Award, the AVEDA “Master of the Art Award,” the “Award of Distinction” from Logics University, Haircolor USA Arts & Sciences “PEP Lifetime Achievement Award,” The International Haircolor Exchange’s “Heart Award,” Modern Salon’s reader’s choice “75 Top Educators of the Country,” “The Grand Trophy of the Professional Press for Best Commercial Hairstyle” by the Association of International Professional Press, and most recently NAHA, North American Hairstyling Awards, “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

AMAZING!!!

Thanks Larry :)

First ever Latino Bridal and Quinceañera show

This saturday we will be taking part in the first ever Latino Bridal and Quinceañera show in UT.
This is a big deal for us because being latin, we have always wanted to be a part of the latin wedding industry. We have been asked to participate by designing the hair and makeup for the runway show. We are very honored. Now Venezuela is not one that banks on Quinceañeras but having had the opportunity to bask in most latin cultures in my life, I know what a Quinceañera consists of and Ill tell you that those events are at times bigger and more glorious then the future wedding that young girl will have one day. So its a fun thing to be a part of!
So join us this saturday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley for the first Latino Bridal and Quinceñera show ever to be held in UT!
See you there!!!

I had the opportunity and honor to sit through a 2 hour class with Nicholas French thanks to my mentor Larry Curtis (founder of Taylor Andrews Academy)
Greg went with me. It was actually our first date since we decided to open the salon! Anyway, aside from all the amazing and inspiring things I learned, he shared something
that was very inspiring.

He asked

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Hairdressing, makeup artistry- its all about innovation. Finding ways to make things better, more effective and new. Life, is about progression, learning and becoming better. So I guess regardless you and I will always have something in common and that is we both desire to progress. So when was the last time you did something for the first time?

STUDIO STEMS BOUQUET GIVE AWAY

Thats right studio stems is giving some bouquets away .... here are the details....

As a designer Audrey gets cravings to do certain things. Sometimes she gets to do those things with clients, other times its a bit too edgy for clients. She recently attended a design class and realized that she wants/needs to do some things that she had been dreaming up artisticaly.
She has about 6 designs in mind. They range from a more traditonal feel with a twist to very edgy. She wants to GIVE them away for COST ONLY. This means you would be getting bouquets from studio stems, from Audrey ... for $30-$200 that would normally be $150-$500. here are the rules ...

1.If your an exisiting client and your designs are done you cannot apply, if your designs are not done and your an existing client you can apply. otherwise this is open to any and all brides for bridal sitting bouquets or wedding day bouquets.
2. color schemes are available to be customized to you on 5 of the bouquets.
3. i will not divulge designs until we have chatted and i have determined what design would best suit the applicant
4. you must have a professional photographer, that is willing to comp her a disc of images that include the bouquet, or you must own the rights to your disc and allow her to copy your pics for advertising use.
5. you must pay costs up front.
